most of the mothers i met at the hospital defaulted from breastfeeding their babies.
80% of them would say, 'susu keringla'.. some would just say 'anak tak mau hisap'..'susahla. akak kerja'.. (these are not official statistics btw, they're from my observations) its frustrating, when the mothers actually are fully aware of the benefits of breastfeeding. most importantly, its free! who doesn't like free stuff..? if an advertisement comes out in the paper that sound something like, free highly nutritious food for newborns for 6 months! i bet hundreds of parents would sign up for it.
behold zainab afifah. a successful product of exclusive breastfeeding. her mom expresses breastmilk for her during working hours.
look at the chubby leg! OMG...!! *faints*
p/s: yea..yea..to have me, yapping abt all this when i'm far cry from having a baby myself.. but i'm all for the good things in life! so.., say hurrah to breastfeeding! i say it can be done! =))

when u think it's easy, it can be done. i exclusively breastfed my 2 kids (since i only have 2 kids up til now...hehheeh).
if work is the reason....for goodness sake, express the milk!!
I have met an obstetrician who exclusive bf her kids. (are there any jobs that are busier than being an O&G specialist???) she express milk at work n teach her maid how to defrost it n give to the baby...that's it.
if u need anything else to convince, read it here http://lovingdoc.blogspot.com/search/label/breastfeeding
I am not promoting the blog, but i am really into promotinf breastfeeding.
(writing abook about it- but still doesn't know how to get it published:))

btw,tak penah lak tanye sblm ni, akak grad which year eh? keje kat ne? specialist?
I am all for breastfeeding but my work nature does not permit me to pump at work. I travel everyday, see customers like drs, pharmacists and nurses and eat my lunch at different places everyday. I have colleagues who pump milk in hospital toilets and in the car simply because we don't find proper place in hospitals that allow mothers to pump.. I asked almost every nurses I see if there's any empty room or a space that allow me to have 30 minutes in private..they say the only one is surau. I am weak as I cannot imagine pumping in toilet which is not hygienic an in car which serve no privacy. So I only breastfeed at night; if I find a proper place like Jusco I'll pump my milk but it's not enough for my kid for long time. I always have icebox in my car boot and the pump. I did the sAME THING FOR MY BIGGER KIDS AND MANAGED TO BREASTFEED PARTIALLY TILL THEY'RE 1 1/2 YEAR OLD!
since i geram sgt dgn the malaysian yg so negative about exclusive bf, tu yg melonjak2 nk tulis buku. actually yg educated lagi open pasal bf ni. tp org2 kt rural yg x kj, yg pendapatan rendah ni, diorg la yg rasa x possible nk bf...apa hal lak jadi mcm ni. sampaikan ada yg x mampu sgt nk beli susu, diorg blh pg bg air teh @ dilute susu pekat.(i've met these people). bf je la kan...it's free...
pelik..pelik..
i understand apa hliza rasa...ye la bila kita really nk bf, tp the work nature doesn't permit, sedih je kan...
i grad 2001, dear...muda lagi...hhehehe
Dear 2 doctors, actually byk benda perlu kerajaan buat to make this breastfeeding campaign successful. New mothers easily give up because they lack knowledge..which is only accessible to people who read or surf internet; I wonder if there's prenatal classes in klinik ibu dan anak kerajaan which emphasize the wonders of breastfeeding. And a lot of my friends will swear by expensive breast pumps like Medela because they say they help pumping become so easy (if you use the normal brand that cost around RM40-70..you'll get frustrated easily). The thing is, poor people rather invest for milk formula than expensive pump like this..do we even subsidize or have breast pump for rental in government clinics? I don't think so. And the places to express your milk..only certain workplace have that..and leading shopping malls too. One of my colleagues was 'blacklisted' by the boss because she tried to fight for a room to pump her milk. All this de-motivate us the working mothers. We have enough stress at work, postpartum depression and a family to raise..so most just chicken out and take the less depressing way..formula milk. Besides, I always hear people say you need to train the baby not to be too attached to you so that you can easily go back to work..which is so sad..what have our community become..my mom and MIL also one of them..keep pressing me why I haven't train my baby on formula while I'm still on maternity leave. If I listen too much to what they say, gila meroyan dibuatnye..(I waited till the last day to do that..with tears!)
So, dear doctors..help us!
yup...I ackowledge that problem. kurang promotion from the govt..that's it. ada breast pump 4 rental in govt hosp (brand medela), tp xde org tau.
and yes, breast pump yg murah mmg frustrating- kena beli medela@ avent gak.
my mum pun slalu pressure to start on formula dr lps bsalin. but my MIL midwife, so dia galakkan bf.
mmg kurang knowledge n promotion dr pihak yg sepatutnya...tp kita as single unit in community yg besar can't do anything. tu yg berkobar2 nk tulis buku...to change this.
tp pening kepala lak nak translate english to malay some of the terms...hehheh
